This tour will connect students of all ages directly with Belden Brick Company and the brick-making process.  During this immersive experience, your classroom will virtually go inside the factory that produces one of the most important building materials in the world!

During the field trip, your students will:

  • See the entire brick-making process, including sourcing raw materials, extrusion, brick cutting, firing, to packaging and shipping the products
  • Learn about careers in the materials science field

  • Learn about how science and technology intersect to create bricks that are not only structurally sound but also environmentally sustainable

To help you integrate the virtual field trip into your existing curriculum, here are some ways it can align with topics you may already be planning to teach:

  • Material Science & Chemistry: Connect the chemical composition of raw materials and the firing process to lessons on chemical reactions.

  • Earth Science & Geology: Relate the geological origins and sourcing of raw materials to your earth science topics.

  • Technology: Tie in the advanced machinery, automation, and technology used in brickmaking to lessons on industrial technology, robotics, or manufacturing systems.

  • Mathematics: Use the geometric shapes, measurements, and calculations involved in brick production to reinforce concepts of geometry and spatial reasoning.

This exciting event is brought to you by The Ceramic and Glass Industry Foundation and will be held live, allowing classrooms to interact with our host from The Belden Brick Company.  The event will also be recorded, allowing later, and can be shared as part of your curriculum for years to come.
